The History of Tomorrow starts on the Decem Date. The History of Tomorrow triggers the Glorious Forty, able to push the globe forward towards the world of 2050, a world of Cornucopia and Eutopia, the world of Decemland, the land of ten percent. I call all dreamers to start thinking of the world they dreamt with. I call all dreamers to imagine the design of their utopia. I call the Expert Dreamers of our time. I call the wise men and women of our time. I call the disciples of Marshall and Truman. It is your time, a time when we must dare, therefore we exist.
I call all those who decided to never give up, who thought a better world was around the corner. There will be a Window of Opportunity that we cannot forsake. There will be a Window of Opportunity that we cannot afford missing. Those that do not get on the train of optimism will leave in the Prison of Thought for the rest of their lives.
I call the orthodox thinkers and academics to convert, to become believers in a New Paradigm, to leave their user’s manual behind and embrace new horizons that lie ahead of us for which there are no quantitative models that predict future outcomes.
I call the right and the left, the progressive and the conservative. Let’s get on the same page. Let’s prioritize the interests of the developing world. Let’s build towards a world of Cornucopia and Eutopia. Let’s love and dream.
I call the Pirates of Heartless Capitalism to get ready to fight the battle of their lifetime. I call the Pirates of Heartless Capitalism to fight against the best team of Expert Dreamers that has ever served the global public interest. I found them hidden in the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. I found them in Africa, Latin America and Asia, in Europe and North America. I identified them in my numerous trips. Let’s fight the battle of our lifetime. Let’s defeat once and for all the Pirates of Heartless Capitalism. I found the heart that capitalism needs. We are in a transition from a heartless to a loving capitalism.
I call all human beings to believe that a paradigm shift is around the corner. I call all human beings to get ready for the Journey of our Lifetime. We shall write Page One of the History of Tomorrow. A better world lies ahead of us if we are determined to improve and move ahead, leaving the fears of the baby boomers and the two World Wars behind.
Bretton Woods does not represent our generation. Our problems are those of the extreme poor. There are solutions to the great evils of our time that our current elites forgot or abandoned, that our current elites thought belonged in the imagination of our children that our current elites decided to leave for Hollywood movies or science fiction books.
There is a Decemland waiting around the corner. There are Harmless Armed Forces to be deployed on ten Islands of Peace. There are Decempliant countries and Monfortable countries. There are Povertimmune countries. There is a Race of the Century leading to the establishment of the New International Territory. As far as I know I am not a character from a Hollywood movie or a science fiction book. As far as I know the Expert Dreamers that I identified are not in my imagination.
The potential to build a better world is only feasible if we believe change is around the corner. Let’s export the welfare state to those that were born to live in eternal poverty. Let’s eradicate disease and hunger once and for all. Let’s start building a new world, the world of no diplomacy, the world without borders.
The New Architecture of capitalism is the beginning of The History of Tomorrow. We shall determine our own fate. We do not need Nostradamus or the Next Nostradamus to dictate that the models predict a World War III. There shall be no World War III if we defeat the Axis of Feeble. There shall be no World War III if we embrace the extreme poor and the environment.
It is time to shout the urgency of our time. It is time to say why not instead of why. It is time to become men and women of political stature. Where are thou disciples of Marshall and Truman? Where are thou disciples of Monnet and Schuman? Shall you wake up Sleeping Beauty? Will you conquer the American friend?
Let’s move ahead, let’s start the Journey of our Lifetime, let’s say why not instead of why. There is a new world ahead of us, there is a society waiting for us in 2050, expecting that we will undertake change and reform, expecting that we will prioritize the interest of the most vulnerable.
We extradited the excitement from the policy-making process. We adopted a modus operandi dictated by the rules and formulae that economists of the second half of the twentieth century invented. We have accepted the reality of armed conflict and food shortage with no reaction capacity. They are, after all, problems that shake remote societies, away from our daily routines, removed from our daily concerns.
The History of Tomorrow is not uncertain. The History of Tomorrow is not a reality beyond our own control, supedited to the ups and downs of the market and the randomness of fate. Today we can start building the History of Tomorrow. It is a history that brings both hemispheres closer to each other in issues related to income, welfare, health, human rights and opportunity.
Progressive economists argue in favor of redistribution. Conservative economists defend that it is fundamental to increase the size of the pie by promoting economic growth. If we reform in the West and we incorporate the emerging and poor countries, we will succeed at increasing the size of the pie and will redistribute it better. Poor countries are a world to be explored, a world that will take off if we are determined to construct our own destiny, if we understand that today’s capitalism is heading off the wrong direction. We determine the course of capitalism with our own actions, decisions, behavior and attitude.
We live a time of change on both sides o the Atlantic. The emerging world is more and more influencing. Asia has earned the relevance and importance that once upon a time only Europe and the United States had. The world went through times of redefinition, when the humankind climbed steps in the stairs of human evolution. We have banned the intellectual advancement and have substituted it with the monodimensional maximization of economic profit. We have ignored the collateral damage caused to society by the econoic principles that ignore human dignity and do not respect the environment.
We believed we had explored each corner of the globe. We announced the end of history. We were mistaken by our forecast. We forgot that the global society of the twenty-first century has still much to learn. It is a process of vertical growth, a growth in maturity and wisedom that approaches us to the society of tomorrow, to the society of 2050. Looking forward I overlook more understanding among countries, more cooperation and less competition, a more moderate consumption, the penalization of excess, the adoption of dialogue and diplomacy instead of preventive war and silent fights that expired with the fall of the Berlin wall.
The time of Global Redistribution has arrived, a time of Global Public Goods, of economic and social returns, of functions of emotional utility. My satisfacion increases when I realize the worse off enter the path of self-reliance, of economic sustainability, leaving behind the poverty trap.
I believe in class mobility, in the reduction of inequality, in the abolition of extreme poverty, in North-South cooperation. I anticipate changing times that take into account a horizontal world that makes vertical progress in the maturity of ideas, that discovers new dimensions of understanding and change based on persuasion, on the transmission of excitement, an excitement that sees a world grow on the path of sustainable economic growth. Sustainable growth will grant each citizen of the blue planet access to a basic welfare state and the opportunity to build up wealth and assets thanks to personal effort that rewards hard work and dedication.
It is time. It is our time. Let’s move ahead.
